Just a quickie.
I stumped myself today (I often do to be fair) when I was trying to snapshot a Hyper-V virtual machine prior to trying something potentially destructive (if I got it wrong) in Powershell for SharePoint.
No option to snapshot the virtual machine was available to me in my Windows 2008 R2 Cluster Failover Manager.
Huh? I asked myself.
After some serious staring at the screen (not a mouse click in sight) I dragged something out of my memory about VHD vs RAW (pass through) disks in Hyper-V and how the different types of disk “work”.
I then remembered that snapshot capability is made possible with VHD disks and is not available when a disk is direct on a LUN on the shared storage.
So many things to remember, not enough synapses.
