I’m sometimes troubled by the environmental impact all of the awesome compute capabilities that are emerging across the planet, but rarely when Microsoft are involved.
Why aren’t I troubled by Microsoft Cloud initiatives? Global Foundation Services (GFS) is the bit of Microsoft that designs and delivers it’s underlying technology services, including its datacentres, is highly committed to delivering the immense capability and capacity Microsoft has in the greenest possible ways and is blazing a trail on how to be as green as possible when it comes to the Cloud.
As part of the GFS commitment to drive Microsoft further into the world of green, a further purchase of wind energy has been made equating to the equivalent of 70,000 homes worth of energy per year. Nice job Microsoft!
They’ve even produced a great little infographic about their green-i-fication.
