From the Shell: Creating PowerShell cmdlets – do it right

By | August 17, 2015

Regular readers will know that I am not a developer.  By any measure I’m not to be trusted with Visual Studio or given anything “sharp”.

That said I do, from time to time, knock cmdlets together for PowerShell – usually only for my own use.

I was philosophising with somebody this weekend about how I approach cmdlet development and I was reminded of a resource I use that many folks just don’t know exists – Microsoft’s very own Cmdlet Development Guidelines.

Yep, like so much of the hidden gem content on MSDN, Microsoft has published some fairly useful prescriptive (get it?) guidance on how you should develop cmdlets.

Hurrah and hooray for Microsoft.  Find the Cmdlet Development Guidance here.
